It is most often of genetic nature, but may also occur because of eye, nerve, or brain damage, or exposure to certain chemicals. The English chemist John Dalton published the first scientific paper on the subject in 1798, "Extraordinary facts relating to the vision of colours", after the realization of his own color blindness. Because of Dalton's work, the condition was often called daltonism, although this term is now used for a type of color blindness called deuteranopia. Color blindness is usually classed as a mild disability, but in certain situations, color blind individuals have an advantage over those with normal color vision. There are some studies which conclude that color blind individuals are better at penetrating certain color camouflages and it has been suggested that this may be the evolutionary explanation for the surprisingly high frequency of congenital red-green color blindness. Asked by Aneta - Thu Jul 29 16:11:43 2010 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments A. Color blindless is an X-linked recessive disorder. Hence, the sex chromosomes (X and Y) are used when doing the punnet square. -(c) can be used to represent color blindless, because it is the recessive trait. -(C) can be used to represent the dominant allele for normal vision. A man who is colorblind can be represented as (Xc Y) A female with normal vision can be represented as (XC XC) Hence, your cross is as follows: (Xc Y) x (XC XC) Based on this crossing, you can conclude that there is a 0% chance of producing a son who is colorblind. All males will have normal vision (XC Y) From this crossing, you can also conclude that 100% of the females will be carriers (XC Xc), and thus have normal vision, because the allele for normal… [cont.] Answered by Anonymous - Thu Jul 29 16:19:34 2010 How do you test a toddler for color blindness?
Q. I have a three year old son whom I'm worried about being color blind. His grandfather is color blind also, and even after working with my child on colors he has difficulty identifying them. Yet he grasps even more difficult concepts and tasks. Who do you go to test for this, an eye doctor or are there specialists? And are toddlers even capable of being tested for this? Asked by jamibrothers - Mon May 5 16:16:50 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. You would go to an optomotrist for this testing and yes they are able to be tested. BUT it is common for children at this age to still not have a grasp on their colors, it is normal. If your child is constantly mixing up colors or can not differ between certain shades and sees it as a solid shade then their is a problem. A simple test you can do is lay out three circle cards, two red and one green, on the red draw a green smile on the other red draw a black fsmile, on the green draw a red smile face. If there is red/green (the most common color blindness) your child will see both the red and the green as the same color and will not see the faces at all or very well on the cards except the one with the black face. You can ask him to point… [cont.] Answered by becky q - Mon May 5 17:17:14 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "color blindness" Bing Maps Gets Interface Makeover, Calculates Taxi Fares - eBrandz
