"earth describe-write") is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. A literal translation would be "to describe or write about the Earth". The first person to use the word "geography" was Eratosthenes (276-194 B.C.). Four historical traditions in geographical research are the spatial analysis of natural and human phenomena (geography as a study of distribution), area studies (places and regions), study of man-land relationship, and research in earth sciences. Nonetheless, modern geography is an all-encompassing discipline that foremost seeks to understand the Earth and all of its human and natural complexities—not merely where objects are, but how they have changed and come to be. I'm year 13 at high school in New Zealand (the final year at high school and of formal education) and I am trying to do a geographic field sketch of a mountaineous region called the Tongariro Volcanic Centre. I'm not familiar with that particular volcano... but here are some you might try: Base, crater, vent, cone, lava flow, landslide, maybe erosion from a glacier (which would be called a cirque), the snowline, the treeline, any significant valleys, the highest point and its elevation from both base of the volcano and as above sea level (usually two different numbers). Q. My 4 year old has geographic tongue and has had for a couple of years. He is a smart kid but his speech is not what it should be, is a very fussy eater and was late with walking. I believe all this is related to geographic tongue, the doctors don't have enough information on this condition to be helpful. Has anyone had any experience with this?
