Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, longsightedness or hypermetropia, is a defect of vision caused by an imperfection in the eye (often when the eyeball is too short. or when the lens cannot become round enough), causing difficulty focusing on near objects, and in extreme cases causing a sufferer to be unable to focus on objects at any distance. As an object moves toward the eye, the eye must increase its power to keep the image in focus on the retina. If the power of the cornea and lens is insufficient, as in hyperopia, the image will appear blurred. Hyperopia, and restoring of vision with convex lens.People with hyperopia can experience blurred vision, asthenopia, accommodative dysfunction, binocular dysfunction, amblyopia, and strabismus. Hyperopia is often confused with presbyopia, another condition that frequently causes blurry near vision. Presbyopes who report good far vision typically experience blurry near vision because of a reduced accommodative amplitude brought about by natural aging changes with the crystalline lens. It is also sometimes referred to as farsightedness, since in otherwise normally-sighted persons it makes it more difficult to focus on near objects than on far objects. The causes of hyperopia are typically genetic and involve an eye that is too short or a cornea that is too flat, so that images focus at a point behind the retina. People with hyperopia can usually see distant objects well, but have trouble focusing on nearby objects. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License My friend has hyperopia in one eye and myopia in the other. Unusual. Anyone with info or advice? Q. She is Chinese, 21 years old, otherwise quite healthy. I am not sure if this is a very rare condition. I am also not sure if she is getting good advice in China - she was told only that she could wear glasses to relax her eyes if she wants. A search on Google gave info on either myopia or hyperopia, but nothing about having one in each eye. I would like to pass on to her any useful ideas that may be generated from this query. Thanks. Asked by Shri - Thu May 22 01:03:50 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Her refractive error is known as antimetropia. As far as I know, it's pretty rare but shouldn't be a problem. Glasses and contacts should be able to correct her vision. If the prescriptions in her two eyes are very different, it can be hard to get equal image sizes on the retinas. A good optometrist or optician should be able to correct it, though. Answered by sarahlee - Thu May 22 01:17:26 2008 what is hyperopia? Q. what is hyperopia? Hyperopia is usually trouble reading and since you know that the perscription is the same in both eyes go get some OTC (over the counter) glasses at walmart or walgreens and try them. they have to be made to the same ANSI standards that your Dr.s office makes them to. The +.50 Rx will increase image size like a magnifying glass. As for your eyes hurting. the drops the Dr. gave you could be to cure pinkeye (conjunctivitis) or dry eyes. If you sit at acomputer all day you may want to get a PRIO exam, this type of exam is being used and taught in optomatry schools, it is desigend specificly for computer users. your eyes when working on a computer are focusing on dark and light pixels… [cont.] Answered by Eric S - Tue Jan 29 04:00:51 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "hyperopia" Procrastinating Pleasure
