From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Writing is the representation of language in a textual medium through the use of a set of signs or symbols (known as a writing system). It is distinguished from illustration, such as cave drawing and painting, and non-symbolic preservation of language via non-textual media, such as magnetic tape audio. Writing is an extension of human language across time and space. Writing most likely began as a consequence of political expansion in ancient cultures, which needed reliable means for transmitting information, maintaining financial accounts, keeping historical records, and similar activities. Around the 4th millennium BC, the complexity of trade and administration outgrew the power of memory, and writing became a more dependable method of recording and presenting transactions in a permanent form. In both Mesoamerica and Ancient Egypt writing may have evolved through calendrics and a political necessity for recording historical and environmental events. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What makes the process of writing philosophy papers different than that of other disciplines? Q. Everyone says that writing about philosophy is a 'different sort of writing', but I'm not entirely sure what it meant by that. Of course, you're writing about philosophical texts and issues, but how is the actual process of writing any different than any other sort of academic writing? Asked by kai_maguire - Sun Dec 7 17:50:53 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It is a different sort of writing because, more so than any other branch of the humanities, it is based around (in fact, entirely grounded upon) logic and maths. You cannot (or at least should not) persaude your reader with rhetoric. You must be infinitely careful, consistent and detailed in your definitions. Almost every statement should be reducable to a logical equation. In essence, a philosophy paper is really just an elaborate mathematical equation, with words substituted for numbers. In short, very different to any other discipline. Answered by Tom J - Sun Dec 7 19:09:01 2008 How do you start writing lyrics? Q. I need to write 2 songs (lyrics, but chords optional) for a music assignment. I get ideas and write them down sometimes, but nothings really inspirational to me. I like artists like pink floyd, cat stevens, norah jones, nirvana, and black sabbath. What can i do to start writing (reasonably good) lyrics? Asked by Bella - Tue Jul 14 06:06:31 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hi Bella, Are you writing to a melody, or do you have free reign? Does it have to be a particular structure (verse-chorus-verse-choru s, etc), or can you do whatever you wish with it? Here's what I'd suggest: The biggest hurdle in writing great lyrics is coming up with an interesting idea and angle to write about. The following info should help you come up with better ideas. Step One: Decide what you want to communicate to the listener- What do you want your listener to feel? Do you want them to sympathize with you? Would you like them to take some sort of action? Do you want to pick them up when they feel down? Play around with different emotions. Brainstorm ideas on heartbreak, jealousy, anger, addiction, whatever. Q. I am a new writer and i someday want to write six fantasy books i have been planning for a year now, but I'm afraid I don't have the writing ability for that yet. I don't want to screw up my story, so should i start out by writing a simpler story about a Danish ancestor of mine, in order to gain more experience before I start my big story?
